Background
The initiative for the establishment of new study programs related to food, environment and agriculture has been started by Rector Prof. Dr. Ramë Vataj, where in December 2014 he proposed to the university senate the establishment of a professional commission that will deal with the research of the labor market and the capacities of the university for a new faculty and new study programs. The commission composed of, Dr. Bekim Gashi, Dr. Isuf Lushi and Dr. Hysen Bytyqi, after an extensive consultation with various experts but also with other universities in Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia, Slovenia and Italy as well as various state institutions, proposed that within the University “Ukshin Hoti” in Prizren to be established a new faculty in the field of life sciences. Based on the study programs that this faculty will offer and other examples from the western world but also the field codes according to Erasmus, the commission drafted the report and proposed to the Senate and the SC that this academic unit be named: Faculty of Life Sciences and Environment.
Based on the specifics of UPZ and the demands of the labor market in the region of Prizren but also throughout Kosovo, the new study programs presented in this report will contribute to increasing the performance of UPZ in general but also the identification of this university. especially. Taking into account the tradition of the Prizren region but also the geographical position, then, these programs will directly or indirectly affect the growth and continuous economic and scientific development of this region through the qualification of experts in various fields.
Based on the provisions of article 55 and 56 of the Statute of the University “Ukshin Hoti” in Prizren, and upon the proposal of the commission and the rector, the Steering Council of UPZ supported the initiative (Decision no. 183/2015, dated 03.06.2015) that to establish the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences within the University “Ukshin Hoti” in Prizren.
